Mexico’s back to back MVP, Matthew Bryan-Amaning, became the hottest ‘free agent’ on the market as soon as the Soles de Mexicali season concluded, with a number of teams from South America swooping in to recruit the services of the 6’9″ star. Ultimately it was San Lorenzo in Argentina’s top division who secured MBA who stepped straight into the starting line-up to propel his new squad to a 2-0 lead in the first round of the playoffs, beating Obras Basket 98-82 on Wednesday 9th May 2016.
The win was sweeter than ever as it landed on MBA’s birthday, and he celebrated in style at Obras’ expense – finishing with 16 points and 6 rebounds in just 22 minutes of play.
MBA, said, “Game 2 of the 1st round of the playoffs in Argentina was a special one for me as it was the first time that I can remember having a game on my birthday! We got the win which is what I wanted, and a good one at that.”
Although both teams were tied at the half, San Lorenzo came out with a razor sharp focus in the second half and raced past Obras Basket to finish with a considerable difference of 16 points.
“In this league, especially in the playoffs, everyone can beat everyone,” MBA said. “And so to come away with a convincing win, and be one game away from the next round, is big for us. In the regular season before I got here my team lost 3 out of 4 games against this team so before the series some guys were nervous. Now we’re up 2 games and ready to close out the series which is huge for us and the team’s overall confidence.”
San Lorenzo will face Obras Basket again on Wednesday 11th May.
