The move back towards elevating basketball opportunities for females through the Midnight Madness competition comes at a time where there is a strong focus on getting more girls and women into sport overall. MM founder Nhamo Shire said, “We’re working closely with Sport England to look at ways we can inspire more girls to actively get involved in our game at all levels. With the recent ‘This Girl Can’ campaign going so well, we wanted to extend that over to Midnight Madness and invite all women to come out and show how good they are and inspire the next generation of potential female ballers to get involved with something just for them, that we know they’ll enjoy!”.
Talented player, Marashi Roberts, said, “It’s great to have the women’s Midnight Madness tournament back in action! It means a lot for myself and the other female players as it’s a chance for us to show and prove why it should be on every year, just like the men’s competition. However, for that to continue to happen, we need all the female ballers to hurry up and get registered so we also can hopefully tour Europe and gain the recognition we deserve.”
